I just bought and watched "9" for the first time, great-looking film. I'm going to embark on an Internet journey for more concept art. Hopefully they'll make an art book, I'd definitely buy it.

I love 6. I think he and 7 are my favorites.

More Icons and Disney Fanart

I am a terrible child. I'm lined up with 2 (a 3rd pending) bigger commissions and yet I still took slots for small icons and did them first. Bad Kaycie!

But they came out alright:

The last guy (Spade) is my character, everyone else belongs to their respectful owners.

Also this piece of fanart which should probably never have existed but it was too awesome to ignore:

They're so eerily similar; they're both tall skinny darker men, they have the hats with the feathers, they both do magic/voodoo/gypsy stuff, they both have masks (not seen here), and they're both just plain freakin' awesome.

Shhh I'm not pathetic at all.

Ok, I'm off; I've got two Secret Santa gifts to do, along with the 2 (3) commissions. Hooray!

Commissions and Cafe Dorms

I am doing art!

Commission for a guy of (I presume) him and his boyfriend. (Boy I get a lot of furry commissions!)

Little ornaments I made of all the Cafe Dorms people for our little Christmas tree. We're da bomb. These were fun to do, I want to do more eventually!

Right now I have 3 more commissions lined up. Wow, I've rarely gotten work before this year! What happened?!?

Rockin' owwwwt, catch you folks in a bit~

MIAD Brigade 2!

Here's the sequel to MIAD Brigade, the video that Mitchell, Alex, and I (along with countless others) have been working on the past couple of weeks!

Tell all your friends! Draw us some fanart!

The Princess and the Frog

This guy is awesome. I am drawing him and Clopin together. There is nothing you can do to stop me.

Go see the Princess and the Frog! I want to see it again because I don't think I fully absorbed its awesomeness while watching it. Like, it didn't hit me in the way I expected. I mean, it was awesome, but I thought I was going to be bawling my face off, and I didn't cry once. Well, I'm sure my mom will want to see it, so I'll probably see it again. And you should too!

But seriously. Dr. Facilier. Amazing animation.

Off-topic - Dr. Horrible Comic

I just bought the first issue today. First comic book I've ever bought, like, ever (well, in issue format anyway), since I'm actually not a big fan of comics. Very excited to start following this, hopefully it will stick around a while (although the comic book guy at the shop said he sold out within a couple days and might have to get more, so it sounds promising).

Two more icons

Ugh... I originally took these offers last Tuesday and didn't get to them until tonight because I forgot to bring my computer with me over break (plus there was an immensely cute yet distracting puppy!).

My list of ideal career options

So I'm having an artistic identity crisis re: animation, so I'm going to be making a list of things I like to do/don't like to do to better my understanding of where I can go from here.

Clean-up animation
Character design
3D Character Modeling

Rough animation
3D animation

To be added to later.

Map project and an icon

Had critique on my map project today. Went alright, I guess I need to add more blue/cool tones to it. *shrug* But I'll have you know this is the first almost completely traditional media piece that I've done in about a year, which I think is an accomplishment.

And here's an icon commission I finished today, except I forgot to shade everything below the head. *headdesk*

Commission - Fala and B

Textures brushes from Obsidian Dawn.

Here's the final image of that tight sketch I posted the other day. I really like the way it turned out (and so did the person who commissioned me, luckily)! I'm still getting used to doing the lineless style, sometimes it can be quite tedious! But it's good to have multiple ways of working.

Well, bedtime for me!

Grammar and Tight Sketch

I was searching "KcD Studios" on Google (this blog is the first hit, whoohoo!) and I just realized this:

"I'm a third-year animation student at MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design). I am hoping to specialize in character design and eventually work at a major studios like Pixar, and someday have an animated series of my own!"

Apparently going to art school has nullified my basic grammar skills. How embarrassing.

Anyway, check out this commission I'm currently working on!

It's for someone I met over Teenycom, and she wanted a design for her wedding invitations. This is the tight sketch and she loved it, so I'm going to start on the final artwork pretty soon. :)

Well, off to Illustration class!

New and upcoming films!

So I've seen some awesome (and not so awesome) trailers in the past couple days that I thought I would share with you all.

First is "How To Train Your Dragon", which I am optimistic about. It's another Dreamworks film, so it will have a big name cast, plenty of pop-culture references, and will probably be another mediocre story, but I really like the character designs and the animation looks superb.

Then "Despicable Me" came out with a second trailer, and it looks alright:

Then there's "Prince of Persia".

Now, I love Jake Gyllenhaal like nobody's business. I think he's one of the sexiest men on the planet and for the most part he's a pretty good actor. I'm also pretty OK with Jerry Bruckheimer's "epic" films. But I could not watch this trailer all the way through. This movie looks horrible. Also they're doing the whole "let's cast white people as Persians" thing, although it's Disney so I'm not that surprised:

I bet these videos will be taken down very shortly, so watch them while you can!

Kaycie Head turn

First bit of animation done for my short film, "Chips"! I think this is the best I've ever done on a first pass. Hope I don't hate it tomorrow, haha!

More to come soon!

Sketchdump - Misc.

Sketchdump! I think this concludes the sketches I've done from last year through this summer. If not, then I will be sad.

But here. Have some art. It isn't that good.

More to come! Someday...

Off-topic - New Puppy!

We just got a new puppy! His name is Anuk ("Ah-nook") and he is a husky mix, almost 14 weeks old! I don't get to meet him until Thanksgiving! I'm so sad because of this!

So in the meantime, I'm just posting his pictures everywhere. C:

Halloween Illustration

My Halloween picture for this year. I thought it turned out kind of awesome. I'm going to try experimenting with this lineless style more. C:

Happy Halloween!

Sketchdump - Crack

50th Post! Crazy!

To celebrate, here is a sketchdump. It's a bit on the smaller side and a lot of this stuff is 2+ years old, so it's all rather silly. But here ya go:

My feelings on my grade.

Schnitzel from Chowder! And other dumb things.

My friends' gay lion character Fab, and my character Trane as a lion.

Dumb doodles from Illustration 1 (last year). My professor thought I drew too many dogs (even though almost every piece I saw of hers had either a dog or a cat in it).

Dumb things from freshman year.

This is from high school.

This is also from freshman year. We read "The Allegory of the Cave" and the guy who played opposite Socrates was a complete and total tool. Also there's me being a spaz.

That's all for today!

Sketchdump - Original Concepts

Long time no post! Well, on the art front anyway. But it's the very beginning of Fall Break and I figure I'll finish putting up all the old sketches I've done in the past year or so.

No explanations for any of them because there are so many and I don't want this post to be any bigger. So, enjoy looking at them, if you have questions about any of them you can just ask!

See you folks later!
