A Couple Christmas Thingies

Hey gang!

Even though I'm technically on Christmas break, I'm still drawing when I have the chance (which has so far been every day this week subtracting maybe Friday) and the other day I came up with a couple cute little winter/Christmas-related things:

Iz a little me! New style I'm trying out. I really like these brushes apparently...

A little snowfall icon of the Kayciedog!

I'm also working on the 12th Night project - I finished Malvolio on Monday but as I was about to post him here, I realized that I hated it and it needs to be redone. Such is life I guess!

Stay tuned for more!

12th Night - Feste

Now for my favorite character in the play - Feste!

Unfortunately I was only able to get 5 characters done this semester, but I definitely plan on continuing this series!

12th Night - Sebastian

Next up - Feste!

(Final) Fantasy Piece

My final piece for my Fantasy Art class - a commentary on over-sized weapons. Enjoy.

Almost done with the semester, guys! Ahhhh!

12th Night - Duke Orsino

Next one - Duke Orsino, my least favorite character in the play. Still not sure if I'm satisfied with his design (he also looks a lot like my friend D's character Oxford...)

Not sure if I'll finish all of the characters before the end of semester, but I hope to get at least Sebastian and maybe Feste done. We'll see!

12th Night - Viola

Newest addition to the 12th Night character design projects! Here's Viola a la Cesario. I'm really excited to take a break from the Milwaukee Bucks stuff and get back on this project!

Illustration - Beast Fight

My fourth piece for Fantasy Art class - my beastie battling my friend Lilly's beastie! Both our creatures are canine-based, live in trees, and have tentacles.

Off-topic: The Christmas Season is Here!

Hi everybody!

No art today, but here's an amusing picture of my puppy wearing some reindeer antlers and looking appropriately upset about it.

I really enjoy the post-Thanksgiving pre-Christmas time, it's one of my favorite times of the year (apart from summer vacation that is, har har). This also begins the three-week stretch to the end of my first semester of senior year (INSERT SCREAM OF TERROR HERE). In the next three weeks, I have this left to complete:

1. One twelve-page comic book for the Milwaukee Bucks
2. Approximately twelve more character designs for the "12th Night in the 20's" project
3. Two finished illustrations for fantasy art class (one due Wednesday)
4. One final project for Senior Writing Seminar (which I can actually churn out fairly quickly, I'm sure)
5. A finished plan of what my senior thesis space will look like

So yes. Follow along as I go slowly insane and lose hours of sleep in getting all this stuff done. But all throughout I will be listening to Christmas music and watching Christmas movies and eating Christmas baked goods and it will seep into my brain and be totally AWESOME. HRAAAA.

Alright, well, hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving, and I will be back at MIAD and commence working my butt off in approximately 24 hours. Yeehaw!

P.S. If you haven't seen "Tangled" yet or have doubts about seeing it... you should see it. It's actually much better than its marketing makes it out to be. Just sayin'.

P.P.S. Snap, I've reached 10,000 views on this thing! Niiiiice! Thanks for looking, everyone!

Watercolor Winter Puppies

Had a strange desire to bust out my old watercolors today... so I painted some Kaycie and Alex puppies and listened to Christmas music!

Alright, time for actual work now~

12th Night - Olivia

Right now I'm doing a project where I design all the characters from Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night", as set in the 1920's. Olivia here was kind of an experiment in a style that relies more on shape than line. I rather like how she came out, although I'm not sure it's exactly where I wanted it to go -- I think it works as an illustration, but my initial idea for this project was to make characters that could be fit for animation. So I dunno. I'll talk to my instructor and see what he thinks.

This was one of those rare times where I kept stopping and thinking, "I should really stop having fun and do homework... oh wait, this IS homework!!" Why can't everything be like that? Haha!

Until next time!

Creature Design

Another Fantasy Art project - the prompt this time was to design a creature based on randomly selected traits. My traits were - 2-point attachment, camouflage, teamwork, tentacles, and the ability to grow back limbs. And here is my creature!

The next assignment is to draw our creature fighting (and winning) against another classmate's creature! It's going to be epic.

Stay tuned!

"Jetsam" Card Game Design

To take a little break from commissions and sketchdumps (which are pretty much all I post anymore), here's an assignment from my Fantasy Art class!

We were given an overview of a fictional world and a short synopsis on the specific cards we were to design. I loved designing Ana Thematic. Here are some of the concepts I came up with prior to the final artwork:

Hope you enjoy!

November Commissions part 1

More icons for you today!

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Sometimes I sketch during class.

Some warm-ups and "I was bored during critique" doodles.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Finally got off my lazy butt enough to scan some stuff this morning. Have some more moleskine sketches!

Thumbnails of Shale breaking a bottle in a bar, ready to fight! The other page is people from the Maury Show and people/fish in a clinic waiting room.

Notes regarding a story of mine. Ignore it. The other stuff is random doodling from work.

More story ideas. The doodles are drunk drawings from a bar.

More drunk drawings on the top left, and the rest are from a day at senior writing seminar.

Terrifying people, shepherds, and drawings from the Milwaukee Bucks media day.

Completely random stuff, some of it from New York.

More to come later!

October Commissions

Here are some commissions I got done today!

The top two are for the same person, and the bottom two are from two people that have both commissioned me many times in the past, so love love love to them!

My aunt asked me to make her some "drunken Corgis" for her Corgi Club event she's having next weekend! These were super-fun to draw. :)

Catch you all next time,

Off-topic - Franz Xaver Messerschmidt

Frank just showed us this awesome artist named Franz Xaver Messerschmidt. He was a sculptor in the 1700s and all his work consists of these crazy faces. Love it! Wish I had known about this guy when I was taking art history...

Alright, just a quick post. Haven't done much art lately, I've just been dicking around. I'll get around to posting some stuff eventually.

Until then!

Moebius Tribute

This is the greatest and most best piece in the world... tribute.

No not really at all. But it is a tribute to the awesome Moebius aka Jean Giraud aka Gir, who did all sorts of sweet comic stuff and even worked in some sci-fi films like The Fifth Element, Tron, and Star Wars. This was my first assignment for my Fantasy Art class.

Drink n' Draw September!

My friend Abi posted hers, so I thought I'd post mine!

So last night was my first Drink & Draw, a fun social event where you get a bunch of artists in a bar and make them draw things. Pretty boss. Here's what I came up with:

Here's what I drew first... didn't realize that we were given themes and we were supposed to draw things related to said themes... oops!

One of the themes was "Underwear". Big girls look good, too!

A collaboration! (I drew the babby)

This was after 3 drinks and I was sitting between two Canadians. It happens.
Stupid Nickelback.

Good stuff! Here's some more!
